The Pact with the Devil |
Christian Thought for the Day for August 19
The proverbial pact with the devil. This is Jesus responding to Satan's tempting him in the desert and his response. Goethe's Faust made a pact with the devil.
-----------------------
Again, the devil took him
to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world
and their splendor. "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will
bow down and worship me."
Jesus said, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only."

Adults need not obey parents at all... |
Christian Thought for the Day for August 18
The
Bible commanding us to "obey" our parents is a command to little
children. This can be found in the Greek, little children obey your
parents. Adults need not obey their parents at all. Dr. Frank Minirth
and Dr. Paul Meier, Free to Forgive
Remember also, the larger target audience, both here and in the
book this quote it taken from, including sons and daughters of abusive
or evil parents. So, none of this is intended to advocate disrespect for
the natural order of things as God created it to be. However, it is still saying that even grown children of loving Christian parents need not obey their parents at all either.

his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against
her mother-in-law. A man's enemies will be the members of his own household. Matthew 10:34-36
